Omisore receives certificate of return from PDP chairman in Abuja today
THE governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in
the forthcoming August 9, 2014 election, Senator Iyiola Omisore will
today (Thursday) in Abuja be presented with the certificate of return by
the national chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu.
Credible source informed the Nigerian Tribune that barring any hitch,
Omisore, who polled 1,128 votes in the last Saturday gubernatorial
primary, supervised by the former governor of Kebbi State, Alhaji Adamu
Mohammed Aliero, in Osogbo will get the certificate at the Wadata Plaza,
headquarters of the PDP.
The event, which ought to have been held yesterday was said to have
been put on hold due to the absence of the PDP chairman, who travelled
outside the federal capital territory on official engagement.
Already, a delegation of the Osun State chapter of the PDP, led by
the chairman, Alhaji Ganiyu Olaoluwa, had arrived in Abuja for the
ceremony.
Though, one of the PDP governorship aspirants, Senator Isiaka
Adetunji Adeleke, who boycotted the primary informed newsmen at a
gathering in Ede, on Tuesday that his petition and appeal to the
electoral panel over alleged malpractices in the primary election which
produced Omisore was already receiving the attention of the PDP and the
Presidency, Nigerian Tribune gathered that the certificate of return
would be presented to Omisore.
Confirming the development to our correspondent, Omisore’s Director
of Media and Publicity, Prince Diran Odeyemi said all arrangements had
been concluded for Omisore to receive the certificate at the party
secretariat.
“I can confirm to you that Omisore would get the certificate of
return on Thursday and this is the confirmation of his victory at the
last week Saturday primary election held in Osogbo, where he recorded a
landslide, polling 1, 128 to defeat others. We have absolute confidence
that he would win the August 9 governorship election and rescue Osun
people from the shackles of poverty and hopelessness, which had hindered
the masses since Aregbesola’s administration in the state.”
Osun PDP primaries: Omisore’s candidacy is a ruse - Adeleke •Remain in PDP or leave —Omisore
The
last may not have been heard about the April 5 governorship primaries
of the Osun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which produced Senator
Iyiola Omisore as the candidate of the party.
A former governor of the state and an aspirant who boycotted the
exercise, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, on Tuesday, described Omisore’s
candidacy as a ruse, saying “it was a laughable charade.”
He alleged that the list of the authentic delegates were retrieved
from the chairman of the five-man electoral committee, headed by a
former governor of Kebbi State, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed Aliero and
substituted with fake list used to conduct the primaries.
Adeleke, who made this known at what he termed a reception party for
his would-be delegates, in Ede, said he was in possession of a Close
Circuit Television (CCTV) footage of the alleged beating he received
from the incumbent Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Abdul Jelili
Adesiyan, Omisore and one Sogo Agboola, on the premises of an hotel, in
Osogbo, last week Wednesday.
According to Adeleke, “When they assaulted me physically, the
electricity supply to the hotel was abruptly put off, but they never
knew that the CCTV had a device that can record for sometime before the
restoration of power. I have all these evidences and I have concluded
plans to press charges against all of them, who turned me into punching
bags.”
However, in a swift reaction, the director of media and publicity of
Omisore Campaign Organisation, Mr Diran Odeyemi, said the former
governor had perfected plans to defect to the Labour Party (LP),
stressing that he was being used by Governor Rauf Aregbesola to disrupt
the peace of the PDP, having allegedly being induced by the governor.
Said he: “Adeleke is a politician, who could be used by any
politician to cause disaffection within the political party he belongs
to.”
Counselling Adeleke to remain in the PDP in his own interest, he
pointed out that Omisore had extended olive branch to him, adding,
however, that if he was comfortable in PDP, he could leave.
He expressed optimism that “Omisore will emerge the next governor of Osun.”
Earlier, Adeleke had, at the reception party said “we are here to
celebrate and appreciate the commitment and support of our people for
the PDP. I started this journey when the leaders of our party realised
that PDP may produce a candidate, who may eventually lose the
governorship election.
“All the aspirants have forwarded petitions and complaints to the
national headquarters of the PDP and the election petition panel and
they have confirmed receipt of our grievances and promised to look into
it”.
“Our petitions have been acknowledged by the national chairman of the
PDP, Alhaji Adamu Muazu, the Presidency and security agencies and we
have the hope that action would be taken over the matter.”
The former governor said that “I appeal to our members and teeming
supporters to continue to work for the PDP and the second term of
President Goodluck Jonathan.”
