International friendly: Scotland take on Nigeria at Craven Cottage
Scotland take on Nigeria in an international
friendly at Craven Cottage looking to maintain their good recent run and
build momentum going into the Euro 2016 qualifiers.
The game is
the last scheduled fixture for Gordon Strachan's side before their
opening Euro 2016 qualification match against Germany on September 7.The game goes ahead despite reports of an apparent match-fixing investigation by the National Crime Agency.
Strachan's side go into the clash on the back of a five-match unbeaten run, the most recent results being 1-0 away wins at Norway and Poland, while the Scots have kept clean sheets in their last four games.
But it will be tough against opponents Nigeria, who were crowned champions of Africa last year and are also looking to build momentum ahead of their World Cup Group F campaign.
The Super Eagles will initially face Argentina, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Iran in Brazil, where they will be aiming to improve on a record of never progressing past the Round of 16 stage.
Stephen Keshi's side go into this game on a six-match unbeaten run and have not conceded a goal in three outings.
However, worryingly for the national team boss, they have only scored once in those three games - the latest result being a goalless stalemate with Mexico in March.
Team news
Leigh Griffiths and Barry Bannan missed Tuesday morning's training session for Scotland, but they should be fit for selection.Wigan winger Shaun Maloney is back in the international fold after hip and back problems meant he missed the majority of the season, while Aberdeen pair Mark Reynolds and Peter Pawlett have been called up following the withdrawals of James McArthur, Gary Caldwell, Graham Dorrans and Darren Fletcher.
Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam has been rested along with Norwich pair Robert Snodgrass and Russell Martin, while Celtic winger James Forrest and Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher are missing through injury.
Nigeria's attacking options have been boosted by the welcome return of Stoke forward Peter Odemwingie, who has not represented his country since February 2012.
Scottish fans will also be familiar with Celtic defender Efe Ambrose and former Kilmarnock midfielder Reuben Gabriel, who are included in the Super Eagles' squad.
