Nigeria: Jonathan Nominates Shekarau, Adeyeye Two Others As Ministers
President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday
forwarded names of former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekerau and the
chairman of the South South zone of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),
Dr Stephen Oru, to Senate for confirmation as substantive ministers.
The duo were among the four nominees whose names were forwarded to replace the existing vacancies in the federal cabinet.
Other nominees are Abdu Bulama (Yobe) and Adedayo Adeyeye (Ekiti).
In a letter read on the floor of the Senate by Senate President David Mark, Jonathan requested the lawmakers to expedite action on the screening and confirmation.
LEADERSHIP recalls that Hajia Jamilla Salik was initially pencilled down as ministerial nominee from Kano but her name was withdrawn at the last minute, apparently to pave way for Shekarau.
The former Kano governor recently dumped the All Progressive Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in February.
Oru, a prominent politician in Delta State, was elected as the South South zone chairman of the PDP last year. Before that, he served as an assistant secretary of the Delta State Chapter of the PDP while Adedayo Adeyeye from Ekiti was a former publicity secretary of the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere.
The nominees are expected to appear before the Senate after its two-week recess.
