The Nigerian police has witnessed
the emergence of new senior officers – The Police Service Commission (PSC) has
approved the promotion of some officers – There are 18 new Assistant Inspectors
General of Police (AIGs) and 37 new Commissioners of Police (CPs) It is
promotion galore among the ranks of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). The Police

General of Police (AIGs) and 37 new Commissioners of Police (CPs).
The PSC also
approved the postings with four other AIGs, while among the new CPs, 12 are to
be in charge of the 12 police zonal commands, while the remaining 10 will head
police special formations such as operations, training, police academy,

statement sent to journalists by the spokesperson of PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, today,
July 16, those affected are the Kaduna state CP, Ibrahim Adamu, who is now AIG,
Zone 1 and Abdulmajid Ali, Ogun state CP, who is now AIG, Zone 2. Others are
Usman Tilli, the AIG in charge of border who is now AIG zone 3. AIG Dorathy
Gimba retained her command of the investment formation, AIG Mohammed K.
Mohammed, SPU; and Mohammed Katsina moved from Maritime to DS, NIPSS; AIG
Katsina would be replaced at the maritime desk by Paul Okafor, CP Benue state.
Thirty-seven (37) CPS including nine Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were
also promoted while 16 of the commissioners retained their commands. They are
CP Peace Abdallah, Ebonyi; Emmanuel Ojukwu, Enugu; Frederick Lakanu, Imo;
Adeleye Oyebade, Oyo; Basen Gwana, Abia; Yunana Babas, Taraba. Others are,
Austine Iwar, Gombe; Murtala Mani, Akwa Ibom; Fatai Owoseni, Lagos and CP Henry
Fadairo was also moved from Research and Planning to Jigawa State. Speaking on
the promotions, the chairman of PSC, Mike Okiro (rtd), stated that the
promotions and postings were in line with the commission’s resolve to
reposition the NPF. He reminded the newly promoted policemen and women that the
commission would hold any of them personally responsible for any failure in the
discharge of their duties. Okiro urged them to rededicate themselves to the
service of the nation and abide by the rules and regulations guiding police

others The new promotions are coming a week after the acting Inspector General
of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris promised that the police would soon review cases
of its personnel eyeing elevation to new ranks. The IGP made the statement
while speaking to journalists on Friday, July 8 at the Government House, Minna,
after paying a courtesy visit on Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger state.
