WhatsApp for Android is testing coloured text status feature like Facebook, here's how it works

              

WhatsApp for Android will get a new feature with which the users will be able to put out colourful text status instead of pictures and videos very soon. The same feature is already available for Facebook users since last year. The new feature for WhatsApp status is reportedly available for the beta users already and is at a testing stage for now. This means that WhatsApp will soon roll out the feature for the general public.

As per a report by Android Police, the text status feature is a part of WhatsApp beta version 2.17.291. The report further states that the new feature will be first available to the users who have enrolled for WhatsApp's official Play Store beta program. So, the beta users will get their hands on the feature before it is officilally rolled out to the public. WhatsApp has been doing the same with all its features.

The messaging platform before making a feature official brings it to the beta users first for testing, and later rolls out to everyone. Chances are that the same will happen with the new colourful text status as well. But a report by Android Police hints that the feature is probably a server-side test. This means that the feature may not be available to the public ever, even if they have updated their app to the latest version. But, that's a little unlikely to happen because usually if a feature is avialable for beta users, it comes to the public too.

So how will the new colourful text status feature work? Reports claim that WhatsApp will add a new floating pencil button above the camera icon on the Status tab. To put out a coloured text status like Facebook, WhatsApp users will just have to click on the floating pencil, write and upload it. Report also suggests that WhatsApp will probably bring three options to the users with the new feature with which the users will be able -- to add emojis, select font, and change background colour as well. This will allow the users to design interesting coloured text status. After the text status is created, to upload, users will be required to click on the green arrow icon at the bottom right to post Status.

This new feature is said to first appear on Android, and will be eventually available for the iOS users as well.

WhatsApp is further planning to bring a few more features on board. The messaging application is reportedly working on a recall feature. With this feature, WhatsApp users can delete the message they sent it to their friends after sending it. Furthermore, WhatsApp is also working on integrating payment system within the application in the wake to promote digital India. The app is used by millions, and by bringing payment service onboard it is aiming to make online transaction extremely simple and easy.
