Some members of the Nigerian community in South Africa have reacted to the Super Eagles win over Chipolopolo stars of Zambia.
The victory of the Super Eagles in Uyo ensured their qualification for the Russia 2018 World Cup.
Emeka Ezinteje, Secretary-General of Nigeria Union in South Africa, said that the Eagles have proved a point that they are one of the best in the continent.
“Members of the Nigerian community in South Africa are happy with this victory. Nigeria will make her sixth World Cup appearance and it is a great achievement.
“The players and officials deserve commendation for this feat. It was a tough encounter though, but Nigeria carried the day in the end,” he said.
Trust Owoyele, Welfare Officer of the union, said the Eagles victory came against all predictions when the group was announced.
“It was termed the group of death. But, eventually, Nigeria topped that group and made it to the World Cup. I am optimistic that the Eagles will not disappoint in Russia”.
Owoyele, also the President, Ondo State Union, South Africa, urged the Nigeria Football Federation to commence early preparations for the World Cup.
Chima Umealo, President, the Abia Union in South Africa, called for international friendlies for the Eagles to prepare them for the Mundial.
“I commend the Eagles for this great feat. However, it is important to start early preparations for the World Cup and one way of doing this is to organise international friendly matches for them”.
Ogboroh Omoh, National Legal officer of the Nigeria Union, stated that Nigeria was blessed with lots of talents capable of holding on their own.
“The Super Eagles did well in their group. Many football fans did not give Nigeria a chance in their group, but against all odds, they topped the group.
“I urge them to use the same fighting spirit during the World Cup to make the nation and Africa proud.
“I am also impressed with the young players in the team. They showed a lot of character and discipline throughout the qualifying series,” Omoh added.
Collins Mgbo, secretary of the Limpopo chapter of the union, said that the Eagles went into the business from the first match against the Zambians and consolidated with the final victory against the same team.
“Nigerians in our Province are proud of the Eagles. They have put a smile on our faces and we urge them to continue winning, even in Russia,” he said.
