KIA is teasing us with the continuation of the electrification of its lineup and we are definitely pleased. Well, not pleased to be teased, but to see it continue its electrification path. We’re told the new concept is the next step in that direction and that the company is upping the amps with a “never-seen-before human-machine interface (HMI) and an advanced new ‘motion graphic’ lighting system.” Now, that sounds promising, if not wildly intriguing.
Kia is also introducing a new interactive system it calls “Beyond Autonomous Driving.” What this means is that the company is combining its existing and future technologies to bring us yet another self-driving car concept. Although this sounds alluring, we don’t have much more information as to what seems like a general trend carmakers are diving into.
What we do know is that the company will introduce three interactive cockpit platforms that focus on communication and passenger interactions, as well as interactions between vehicles. Kia promises HMI functions and a world’s first in-car 5G connection. About 5G, a few scientists are sounding the alarm as to the rate of the frequency they feel would be harmful to the human body. We’ll ask Kia about it next time we see them.
Virtual reality (VR), self-driving cars
(AV), and full connectivity are really where Kia is going with all of
this. The company will share how it plans to go about integrating it all
into its new electric lineup at CES this year, according to Dr.
Woong-cheol Yang, Vice Chairman and Head of Hyundai-Kia R&D Center.
If you happen to be there, don’t miss Kia’s unveiling of its electric concept on January 8, 2018, at 4:00 pm PST (Mandalay Bay, Level 3, South Seas F). You can also visit the Kia Motors booth at CES 2018 on Tuesday, January 9 through Friday, January 12 at LVCC, North Hall Booth #7029. Drop us some pictures, videos, and perhaps even guest articles about it!
