Suspect in murder of Rihanna’s cousin remanded in custody
A man has been remanded to prison after appearing in court on suspicion of shooting Rihanna’s cousin dead on Boxing Day.
Shawayne Dashawn Williams, the suspect in the murder of Tavon Kaiseen Alleyne, appeared in court on Wednesday accused of shooting Alleyne in St Michael’s.
The 23-year-old is accused of shooting Alleyne, 21, multiple times at around 7pm on 26 December.
Williams has been ordered to remain in police custody until his next court hearing, which Barbados Today reports will take place on 31 January.
The court hearing was attended by Alleyne’s sister Tanella and his cousin Noella Alstrom, the mother of Rihanna’s goddaughter Majesty.
Tanella previously told reporters: ‘My brother wasn’t a saint, but he didn’t go looking for trouble.’
Tavon was rushed to hospital in a private car after being shot, but later died from his injuries.
He had spent Christmas with his family, including cousin Rihanna, just hours earlier.
