The Toyota Camry-Honda Accord rivalry is one that never gets old and it had just gotten more exciting after Honda launched a new generation Accord here in the US.
The new model came out with a more attractive design, a fully turbocharged line-up and more in-cabin features to offer. It sure looks like Honda has aced it with the new Accord but the sales data of the vehicle is suggesting otherwise.
Unlike how it is with previous generation Accords, the new model is struggling to create a craze and leap into sales upon reaching the showroom. As a matter of fact, the number of new Accords sold so far is a whopping 15% decline from last year.
The same can’t be said for the Toyota Camry which has been experiencing a sharp and stable incline in sales since the release of a more refined model. The Camry may appear less attractive on the brochures when compared to the Accord but that never hindered it from acquiring success. Why is that?
According (pun unintended) to consumers’ feedback, they can’t find an attractive financing deal for the Accord whereas with the Camry, they can enjoy 0% APR. It also feels like Honda never planned to offer attractive financing deals for the Accord as they hope for the vehicle’s record titles to be enough in getting buyers.
If this is to be the true reason for it, then we can say that Honda has grown complacent after years of success. The tanking sales of their vehicles couldn’t come at a better time as it will force Honda to revise their decision entirely.
