Manchester United manager Mourinho forced to change January transfer plans
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho may be forced to shelve a bid for Monaco full-back Fabinho because of the French side’s Champions League success.
The United manager is keen to sign a new right-back and left the No.2 short vacant when he rearranged his squad numbers ahead of the new season.
There was interest in Fabinho in the summer until Monaco made it clear they wanted the Brazil international for the European campaign.
United were prepared to enquire about the 23-year-old’s availability in January.
But with Monaco sat two points clear at the top of their Champions League group, it looks likely the defender will be retained until at least the summer.
Fabinho, who is represented by Mourinho’s agent Jorge Mendes, signed a new two-year contract with the Ligue 1 side in September once it became clear he would not be allowed to join United
