When WhatsApp
announced that it will shutter support for some of the older mobile
platforms, it raised some concerns among users of older devices, mainly
the folks who are still using Symbian S60, S40 or BlackBerry 10
as their daily driver. Well, WhatsApp has now announced that support
will officially stop for such devices by the end of June 2017. Older
versions of iOS, Android and Windows Phone will also stop receiving new
WhatsApp updates early next year.
Here’s what WhatsApp had to say on the matter “These platforms don't offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app's features in the future. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer Android running OS 2.3+, a Windows Phone 8+, or an iPhone running iOS 7+ before the end of 2016 to continue using WhatsApp.”
WhatsApp further mentioned “On June 30, 2017, we will no longer support the following platforms: BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40, and Nokia Symbian S60.”
So if you own any of the aforementioned devices, there’s not much time left to upgrade. We’re guessing the app will still function on these devices, but new updates won’t be sent out post the deadline period.
