Cristiano Ronaldo being linked with a Real Madrid exit is nothing new, but this time it looks serious.
Since the Champions League final, reports have been rife that Ronaldo is looking to turn his back on Los Blancos after nine years with the club. He sparked a huge reaction with his post-match interview, which has stuck with many supporters in spite of a later apology.
The Portuguese sensational stated: "It has been very nice playing at Real Madrid. In the coming days I'll give an answer to my fans, they've always been at my side."
Numerous factors seem to have contributed but doubts revolve around his pay compared to Lionel Messi and Neymar.
Although Ronaldo makes a handsome earning at the Bernebeu, his wages are considerably smaller than his two Ballon d'Or rivals.
Doubts over Ronaldo's future
The ball seems to be in Real Madrid's court: will they offer him a new contract to bridge the gap or accept that with Ronaldo aged 33, it might be good time to part ways?
Of course, Ronaldo is no ordinary 33-year-old yet - with Neymar being linked with a move to the club - Real could start exploring different avenues going forward.
In light of all this, it was decided that Real Madrid and Ronaldo's representatives should sit down and clear the air.
What happened in Ronaldo meeting
According to Marca, both parties met on Tuesday with Real offering a salary of €25 million, which could rise to €30 million if the club enjoyed a brilliant season.
However, Ronaldo's team proceeded to reject the offer with the deal still measuring unfavourably when compared to the €37 million Neymar makes at Paris-Saint Germain.
Most notably of all, though, the report reveals: "Ronaldo believes that Madrid want to get rid of him and for that reason he will not offer any concessions to what he feels he deserves.
"For this reason, he has asked the club to let him go, and the truth is that for the first time in nine years, he has heard a "yes" to leave if he wishes, despite having a contract until 2021 and a buy-out clause of one billion euros."
